Preparing For Your Appointment

MEDICATIONS THAT NEED TO BE STOPPED FOR ALLERGY TESTING

Please stop the following medications according to the times indicated prior to your appointment so that allergy testing can be performed if indicated.

 Stop the following medications 5 DAYS prior to the testing:

  • Claritin, Claritin-D, Clarinex (GENERIC = Loratidine)
  • Zyrtec (Ceterizine), Zytec-D, Xyzal (Levoceterizine)
  • Allegra, Allegra-D (Fexofenadine)
  • Atarax (Hydroxyzine)
  • Periactin (Cyproheptadine)
  • Tavist (Clemastine)
  • Astelin Nasal Spray
  • Astepro Nasal Spray
  • Dymista Nasal Spray
  • Optivar (Azelastine)
  • Pataday (Olopatadine)

Stop the following medications at least 3 DAYS prior to your appointment:

  • Zantac (Ranitidine)
  • Pepcid (Famotidine)
  • Axid (Nizatidine)
  • Tagamet (Cimetidine)
  • Benadryl (Diphenhydramine)
  • Chlor-trimeton (Chlorpheniramine)
  • Dimetapp  
  • Phenergan
  • Tylenol PM
  • Unisom
  • Amitryptiline
  • Doxepin (Sinequan)
  • ALL OTHER ANTI-HISTAMINES AND DECONGESTANTS

 Stop the following Medications AT MIDNIGHT THE DAY PRIOR to your appointment:

  •  Accolate (Zafirlukast)
  •  Reglan (Metoclopramide)
  •  Singulair (Montelukast)
  •  Zyflo (Zileutin)

 

THE FOLLOWING MEDICATIONS ARE OKAY TO USE PRIOR TO TESTING:

All inhalers for asthma, nasal steroid sprays and prednisone.  In terms of sleep aids it is okay to continue Lunesta, Ambien and Melatonin.
